On August 12, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mr. Cristiano Amon, Chairman and CEO of Qualcomm Corporation and the corporation's delegation on a working visit to Vietnam.

Qualcomm is the world's leading corporation in 5G advanced mobile communications and radio technology, headquartered in San Diego, California (USA) with a market capitalization of approximately 160 billion USD.
At the meeting, Qualcomm's Chairman expressed his expectations for Vietnam's future development, and highly appreciated Vietnam's policies related to science and technology development, innovation, and digital transformation.
Believing that Vietnam will become a regional center for research and development, especially in AI, he affirmed that Qualcomm is ready to strengthen cooperation, support capacity building, and train human resources for Vietnam.
He also shared about the Group’s operations and proposed cooperation plans in the Vietnamese market to develop strategic and innovative technology sectors such as AI, semiconductors, IoT device manufacturing, electronics, and smartphones, thereby contributing to building a highly competitive Vietnamese economy.
Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính acknowledged and highly appreciated Qualcomm for its more than 20 years of accompanying the development of the telecommunications and technology sectors in Vietnam, in key areas such as mobile connectivity, technology transfer, AI research, STEM training, startup support, and fostering the innovation ecosystem — especially the establishment of the AI Research and Development Center in Hanoi.
In particular, the Prime Minister congratulated and highly valued the fact that, during this visit of the Chairman, the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and Qualcomm signed a Cooperation Agreement towards the establishment of the VNPT – Qualcomm Center of Excellence.
To further promote stronger, more practical, and more effective cooperation between Vietnam and Qualcomm in the future, the Prime Minister requested that the Group continue to expand its in-depth investment in Vietnam, particularly in core technologies and higher value-added stages of the semiconductor industry value chain; cooperate with Vietnamese enterprises, research institutes, universities, and national innovation centers to develop the startup innovation ecosystem; support Vietnamese enterprises in participating more deeply in Qualcomm’s and its partners’ supply and production chains; and provide support and share with Vietnam its experience in corporate governance, human resource training, and institutional improvement.
The Prime Minister stated that Vietnam is continuing to implement many breakthrough measures to facilitate and attract high-quality investment and to promote cooperation in these areas, such as a temporary visa exemption policy for leading experts and scientists in the high-quality digital technology industry.
The Prime Minister expressed his belief that, with Qualcomm’s history of cooperation with Vietnam over the years, the two sides will achieve even greater success in the future. He affirmed that the Government of Vietnam is committed to creating a favorable business environment for investors to operate profitably and effectively, in the spirit of working together, winning together, and sharing joy and happiness, with harmonized interests and shared risks.
