Blade servers<\/strong> \u2013 also known as high-density servers<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mainframes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Choosing the right server type depends on many factors such as data center space, workload, available power, and investment costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Storage system<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

There are two main types of data center storage systems:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Block storage:<\/strong> Uses HDD or SSD to store data in blocks. Devices such as storage area networks (SANs) contain multiple drives and act as large centralized storage systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

File storage:<\/strong> Network-Attached Storage (NAS) devices allow for the storage of large amounts of files, often used to store images, videos, and documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, many data centers adopt network virtualization technology, which enables the construction of flexible software-based overlay networks, supports better security controls, and meets service level agreements (SLAs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Power and cable management<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Power Supply:<\/strong> Servers are typically equipped with dual power supplies. Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) keep things running during short power outages, while high-capacity generators can step in for more serious problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cable Management:<\/strong> Dense cabling can cause cross-talk and heat generation, affecting performance and safety. Proper cable management and compliance with industry standards are imperative when designing and expanding a data center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Disaster and Recovery<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Data centers need to be able to recover quickly to avoid losses due to disruptions. Solutions include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

RAID (redundant array array)<\/strong> to minimize the risk of data loss<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Redundant cooling system<\/strong> to maintain server temperature when the main system fails<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Humidity:<\/strong> Adequate humidity levels must be maintained to avoid rust or electrostatic discharge. Ventilation systems, humidity sensors and CRAC devices are effective control tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Static Electricity:<\/strong> Even a small voltage can damage equipment. Therefore, data centers are equipped with electrostatic discharge and monitoring systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fire prevention:<\/strong> The fire detection and suppression system is an indispensable component and must be periodically inspected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
