The new ADC cable line was officially put into operation on December 19. This is the submarine cable line with the largest capacity in Vietnam today, twice as large as the current largest cable line, AAE-1…
ADC (Asia Direct Cable) is the newest cable line in the intra-Asian region with a length of nearly 10,000 km of submarine optical cable with an initial total capacity of over 160Tbps and will be officially put into operation on December 19, 2024.
THE LARGEST CAPACITY SUBMARINE CABLE SYSTEM IN OPERATION

Over the past 8 years, this is the largest and newest submarine optical cable system to be put into operation, connecting East Asia and Southeast Asia with a total submarine cable length of nearly 10,000km. The ADC cable connects to 7 landing stations in countries along the cable route: Japan, Hong Kong SAR, China, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam (in Quy Nhon, Binh Dinh).
In terms of design, the cable has an 8-fiber pair (8FP) configuration on the Singapore-Hong Kong-Japan main axis, using high-density wavelength multiplexing technology with an initial design capacity of over 160Tbps and can support the latest technologies in the future. In particular, the ADC submarine cable is designed to connect directly to the largest data centers in Asia including: Singapore, Japan and Hong Kong.
There are 9 investors who have jointly built and deployed this cable line. They are Softbank (Japan), three Chinese carriers China Telecom Global, China Telecom Corporation, China Unicom, Singtel (Singapore), TATA Communications (India), National Telecom (Thailand), PLDT (Philippines) and Viettel of Vietnam with contractor NEC.
After 6 years of implementation, overcoming many difficulties and challenges, especially during the Covid 19 pandemic, global supply chain disruption, and political tensions/conflicts in the world, the ADC system has completed the implementation and signed the project acceptance on November 8, 2024.
On December 18, Viettel Business Solutions Corporation (Viettel Solutions) - a member of the Military Industry - Telecommunications Group, together with partner networks, held the inauguration ceremony of the ADC submarine cable line in Hanoi. The ADC cable line will officially operate from December 19, 2024.
Viettel is the only investor in Vietnam that owns 01 fiber pair (FP) on the main axis, with a minimum design capacity of 20 Tbps and owns all submarine cable branches and landing stations in Vietnam. When put into operation, ADC will be the submarine cable line with the largest capacity in Vietnam (twice the current largest cable line, AAE-1).
This 5th cable line of Viettel will provide a large capacity of high-speed connections from Vietnam to international countries to meet services and technologies requiring high speed and large bandwidth such as 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), virtual reality (AR/VR), while enhancing the redundancy, safety and sustainability of Viettel's Internet infrastructure in particular and Vietnam in general.
DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY OF INTERNATIONAL SUBMARINE CABLE SYSTEMS

Along with the currently exploited submarine cable lines TGN-IA, AAG, APG, AAE-1, ADC submarine cable will be a powerful assistant, sharing the load with other lines, thereby contributing to improving network safety, national information security as well as improving the quality of Viettel's telecommunications services provided to customers.
Thus, after 8 years since the AAE-1 submarine cable connecting Vietnam to the world in 2017, Vietnam has had another cable with "huge" capacity put into operation. This is also the newest cable in the intra-Asian region in the past 8 years.
According to Mr. Pham Trung Kien, Deputy General Director of Viettel Solutions, the ADC submarine cable system will expand connections between Vietnam and countries in the region and the world, bringing new opportunities in information exchange, international transactions, and technology development.
The ADC submarine cable project will contribute to implementing the Ministry of Information and Communications' strategy for developing international submarine fiber optic cable systems until 2030 and vision to 2035.
Also in 2024, Viettel Solutions, together with leading network operators in the region, invested in the ALC submarine cable project connecting major Hubs in the Asia region, and officially announced the VTS submarine cable project - directly connecting Vietnam - Singapore with Singtel, which is the shortest cable line directly connecting Vietnam to Asia's largest Digital Hub, Singapore, with advanced bandwidth and technology.
The Ministry of Information and Communications' strategy for developing international submarine optical cable systems aims to deploy and put into operation at least 10 new submarine optical cable lines with modern technology by 2030, bringing the total number of submarine optical cable lines in Vietnam to at least 15 lines with a minimum capacity of 350 Tbps.
